song of praise to deerwoman, after the hunt

my longing
is a doe-eyed woman
moondaughter of the canyon poplar
true wife of the greentongued man
deerwoman

my longing
is a dancing child of the goddess
kinsister of maple and holly
companion of the mountain sheep
deerwoman

my longing
is a dreamjourneying wanderer
skinslipping shapeshifter
lover of water and shadow
deerwoman

as your flesh becomes my flesh
your bones my bones
your skin my skin

we are now kinbound to one another
bloodoathed through the ancient pact
of hunter and prey
death and life
human and deer

may your spirit journey well
and may we meet again
drawn together
as the moon draws womens blood
as womens blood draws the dreamtime
as the dreamtime draws the moon
